TAKOMA RADIO ART AUCTION & CONCERT
Seekers Church
276 Carroll St. NW DC (across from Takoma Metro)
The bricks and mortar version of Takoma Radio is nearly in place. Come celebrate and help us raise money at our Art and Artifacts Auction.
Local artists, individuals and businesses have donated art, experiences and items, from drumming lessons and piano lessons to original paintings, photographs and art objects created by prominent local artists. There are experiences to be had such as attending a Tiny Desk Concert at NPR as the personal guest of Bob Boilen. There will be a silent auction, a raffle, a live auction, food, bevvies and music. Phil Wiggins, international blues harmonica star and Takoma Park resident, will give a rare solo performance.
If you can't make the auction, please Donate $10, $20, $50 or more now to pay for rent, equipment, engineering, training and operating expenses for HISTORIC community radio serving Takoma and surrounding neighborhoods. We have a match in play right now. Dollar for dollar, an anonymous donor is matching donations from now until March 20.
http://takomaradio.org/join-us/ As a non-commercial radio station set to broadcast on 94.3 FM starting this summer, Takoma Radio relies on your support. If you prefer to donate by check, endorse to "Historic Takoma" with "Radio" as the memo. Mail to Historic Takoma RADIO, 7328 Carroll Ave, Takoma Park, MD 20912.
TICKETS: $30 singles, $50 for a pair. Each ticket includes 1 drink and yummy hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants.

OCEAN QUARTET: FSGW Monthly Concert
Seekers Church
276 Carroll St. NW
Takoma, DC (across from metro)
An evening of Celtic traditions old and in-the-making from local composer and band leader Jennifer Cutting and her OCEAN Celtic Quartet (Jennifer Cutting on accordions & keyboard;Lisa Moscatiello on vocals, whistles & guitar; Andrew Dodds on fiddle, and Steve Winick on vocals and percussion).
For those unfamiliar with Cutting’s cutting-edge (pardon the pun) spin on Old World Celtic rhythms and songs, expect an evening ranging from soaring ballads and stirring sea chanteys to blazing fiddle and accordion tunes. And then, of course, are the gems that come out of Cutting’s mental drawing board: “Green Man,” “Song of Solstice,” and her compelling “Steady as You Go” to name a few of her originals. Together, the group combines compelling vocals, award-winning original songs, rollicking instrumentals, and innovative arrangements of rare traditional repertoire uncovered by original archival research—a signature blend Cutting calls “Celtic Music for Ancient Moderns.”
TICKETS: Free to FSGW members; general public $20.

BELLY DANCE CLASSES IN TAKOMA PARK
Saffron Dance at Takoma Park
In Residence at Roda Movements
7014 Westmoreland Ave
Takoma Park, MD 20912
What do a N.A.S.A. engineer, corporate lawyer, stay-at-home-mom and your local barista all have in common? They spend their evenings at Saffron Dance learning something you might not expect: Belly Dance. If you haven’t belly danced before, now is the perfect time to begin. To mark Saffron Dance’s 8th year as a hub for Middle Eastern dance, Saffron is offering FREE introductory “teaser” classes from September 15th to September 28th. These teaser classes give students a taste of Saffron’s signature 4-week Belly Dance Crash Course program. Created for individuals who are coming to belly dance for the very first time, Saffron’s Crash Courses are structured and easy to follow — absolutely no dance experience necessary! They are perfect for students to learn the basics of Belly Dance. Each week, a new movement is introduced and drilled, building on and incorporating elements from the prior weeks. Particular focus is given to developing correct posture alignment, flexibility, arm positions and paths, fundamental shimmies, basic hip accents, introductory undulations, easy to follow traveling steps and combinations. The program culminates in a performance opportunity so students can share their new hobby with family and friends.
Learn more about Saffron Dance and sign up for 4-Week Crash Courses starting September 29 at www.SAFFRONDANCE.com
