LUMINA THEATRE GROUP presents
KING LEAR by Wm. Shakespeare
Silver Spring Black Box Theatre
8641 Colesville Rd.
Silver Spring, MD 20910 (next to AFI)
Directed by David Minton
Cast members: John O'Connor (Lear), Kelly O Connor (Goneril), Dre Weeks (Regan), Molly Hickman (Cordelia), Ritchie Porter (Kent), Robert Wiser (Fool), Brian Monsell (Gloucester), Ian Rogers (Edmund), Keith Anderson (Edgar), Brad Sperber (Albany), Mark Reiner (Oswald, Edmund’s Soldier), Michael Gelfeld (France), Mark Jefferson (Burgundy), Liz Porter (Cornwall’s first servant), Andy Penn (Lear’s Gentleman), Cassie Gabriel (Lear’s Gentlewoman), Lilac Marcus Gordon (Lear’s Attendant), Ian Fore (Doctor).
Lumina presents its unique version of LEAR - a politically resonant story of an arrogant business mogul, a country split into warring factions, and a powerful, privileged family in turmoil.  In a time of fast-paced corporate acquisitions and surface luxury, Lear's decision to divide his empire between his three daughters sends the world around him spiraling into a dystopian time of violence and a fight for survival. Widely regarded as Shakespeare's most profound tragedy and arguably one of the greatest English-language plays ever written, LEAR explores the entire spectrum of the human experience: love, betrayal, forgiveness, despair, hope, and mortality. The Lumina Theatre Group celebrates its 9th production and Lumina's 20th anniversary with this masterwork by Shakespeare.

NEW EXHIBIT -- opened Jan 12
Post Memory: Photographs of a Certain Place and Time
Curated by Amina Cooper c/o Arts & Humanities Council of MoCo
Betty Mae Kramer Gallery and Music Room
Silver Spring Civic Building
One Veterans Place
Silver Spring MD 20910
The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County celebrates the opening of Post Memory: Photographs of a Certain Place and Time with a public reception on January 12, from 6 to 8pm.  This exhibition brings together four artists –  Bonnie Collier, Kaitlin Jensco, Muriel Hasbun, and Miriam Mörsel Nathan – whose photo-based work explores the ways that memories and personal histories can be reclaimed, reconstructed, and reimagined.  The artists in this exhibition embrace a variety of processes and techniques.  Archival photographs and documents are manipulated, juxtaposed, and embellished.  Fragments of scenes obscured by movement and light are offered up.  Together, the works suggest loss, nostalgia, and a desire to pay tribute to persons, places, and moments past.
