MISS WITHERSPOON by Christopher Durang
Silver Spring Stage
10145 Colesville Road
Silver Spring, MD 20901
In Miss Witherspoon, the always-clever Christopher Durang uses the afterlife – our greatest unknown – to illustrate a universal truth about being in the world. That may sound deeply serious, but in Durang’s hands it’s a wild and ridiculously funny ride. A dark and incisive comedy when a woman is given a second chance to find where she fits in the world.

FORUM THEATRE presents BLACKBERRY WINTER
A National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere
written by STEVE YOCKEY - directed by MICHAEL DOVE
Silver Spring Black Box
8641 Colesville Rd.
Silver Spring, MD
"We are thrilled to be once again working with Steve Yockey," says director Michael Dove. "His plays have an ability to theatricalize and unlock difficult conversations and topics and it's what makes them a perfect fit for Forum. We constantly strive to produce work that allows our audience to reflect on the most pressing and relevant issues of our day and to spark conversations that might not happen otherwise. Blackberry Winter is a great example of that. Alzheimer's is, unfortunately, something that many of us will have to deal with, at some point in our lives. Whether it's directly or through our relationships with family members or friends. This play tells the story of a caretaker and daughter in such a wildly original way that I think it will give whole new perspectives on disease and illness and to help us better deal with it in our lives and relationships."
TICKETS: $18 (plus $3 service charge)

BELLY DANCE CLASSES IN TAKOMA PARK
Saffron Dance at Takoma Park
In Residence at Roda Movements
7014 Westmoreland Ave
Takoma Park, MD 20912
What do a N.A.S.A. engineer, corporate lawyer, stay-at-home-mom and your local barista all have in common? They spend their evenings at Saffron Dance learning something you might not expect: Belly Dance. If you haven’t belly danced before, now is the perfect time to begin. To mark Saffron Dance’s 8th year as a hub for Middle Eastern dance, Saffron is offering FREE introductory “teaser” classes from September 15th to September 28th. These teaser classes give students a taste of Saffron’s signature 4-week Belly Dance Crash Course program. Created for individuals who are coming to belly dance for the very first time, Saffron’s Crash Courses are structured and easy to follow — absolutely no dance experience necessary! They are perfect for students to learn the basics of Belly Dance. Each week, a new movement is introduced and drilled, building on and incorporating elements from the prior weeks. Particular focus is given to developing correct posture alignment, flexibility, arm positions and paths, fundamental shimmies, basic hip accents, introductory undulations, easy to follow traveling steps and combinations. The program culminates in a performance opportunity so students can share their new hobby with family and friends.
Learn more about Saffron Dance and sign up for 4-Week Crash Courses starting September 29 at www.SAFFRONDANCE.com
