COLD TURKEY JAM: ACOUSTIC AND UNPLUGGED – RISE UP SINGING
Electric Maid
268 Carroll St. NW DC (across from Takoma metro)
Bring your Thanksgiving leftovers and other food and drink and a song or two (a copy of the brand new "Rise Again Songbook" with 1200 NEW songs will be brought along) and your musical instruments, song books, and voices to the Electric Maid on Black Friday evening and join in the Cold Turkey Jam! (This WAS planned with Phil Fox on September 20, 2015 after his stroke but before he left us and is continuing his stead). Bring some cash donations to keep the Electric Maid going, if you can. The Electric Maid sound man is on vacation, so this will be an acoustic and unplugged song circle.
Cost: No admission charge, but please leave a donation to help pay for keeping the space open. There will also be a free item table, a sort of PWYC yard sale table. Donations will go to helping this great neighborhood performance and meeting space keep going strong. Song circle led by Severn Savage.
History: Several years ago, Phil Fox began the Black Friday tradition of the Cold Turkey Jam. Phil is no longer with us, but the Cold Turkey Jam lives on as a good time and a way to keep that leftover turkey carcass from taking up a week's refrigerator space. Join us for a night to be thankful for music, food and fellowship and for a place to gather to enjoy them. Phil would have wanted you to come, so we hope to SEE YOU THERE

SHAKESPEARE’S “AS YOU LIKE IT” c/o LUMINA STUDIO THEATRE
Directed by David Minton
Music direction: Wendy Lanxner
Boys will be boys, so the old saying goes. But this wasn't the case at the original Globe Theatre nor do we find it in Lumina's gender bending production of AS YOU LIKE IT!  THE COURT is thrown into chaos when the tyrannical Fredericka assumes command of that notable fashion empire.  The ousted CEO Duchess Senior and her loyal staff re-group in the abandoned Arden Theatre occupied by radical feminists. There the banished Rosalind and Orlanda seek to find themselves and each other.  As the various couples search for identity and true love, Shakespeare's brilliant comedy reconciles the foolery of outward appearances and the wisdom of the heart.

WASHINGTON REVELS presents THE CHRISTMAS REVELS:
A MEDIEVAL CELEBRATION OF THE WINTER SOLSTICE
Lisner Auditorium
Washington, DC
Revel with us and with our beloved king, a mysterious woodland queen, a pair of fools, and an unexpected guest. As the Winter Solstice calls us all together, meet us in a special place that straddles the majestic and the mythical realms. The townspeople gather with court and forest folk, new and old traditions find common ground, and a deeper community emerges. Join us and find the true heart and spirit of the holiday season as we bid goodbye to the old year and celebrate the birth of the new.
Amidst it all, enjoy rousing traditional music, powerful medieval songs, ethereal chants, seasonal carols, rollicking tunes on early instruments, familiar rounds, folk and courtly dances, a madcap “12 Days of Christmas,” the eerily hypnotic Abbots Bromley horn dance, a topsy-turvy “Lord of Misrule,” and an evocative mummers’ play.
Join our cast of over 100, ages 8 to 85, for this one-of-a-kind evening of seasonal celebration and merriment. Sing along and dance in the aisles with us, and join the over 10,000 people who make our Christmas Revels part of their holiday tradition each December!
Washington Revels’ flagship production, The Christmas Revels, is a festive celebration of the Winter Solstice and the return of sun and light after the “shortest day.” Through music, dance and drama, it draws on traditions and rituals from many lands, peoples, and eras — medieval, Renaissance and Victorian English, French, Russian, Roma (Gypsy), African-American, Scandinavian, American Appalachian, Native American, Renaissance Italian, Québécois, medieval Andalusian (Sephardic, Arabic and Spanish), southern Balkan (Bulgarian, Greek and Thracian Turkish), Irish, and more.

What do a N.A.S.A. engineer, corporate lawyer, stay-at-home-mom and your local barista all have in common? They spend their evenings at Saffron Dance learning something you might not expect: Belly Dance. If you haven’t belly danced before, now is the perfect time to begin. To mark Saffron Dance’s 8th year as a hub for Middle Eastern dance, Saffron is offering FREE introductory “teaser” classes through September 28th. These teaser classes give students a taste of Saffron’s signature 4-week Belly Dance Crash Course program. Created for individuals who are coming to belly dance for the very first time, Saffron’s Crash Courses are structured and easy to follow — absolutely no dance experience necessary! They are perfect for students to learn the basics of Belly Dance. Each week, a new movement is introduced and drilled, building on and incorporating elements from the prior weeks. Particular focus is given to developing correct posture alignment, flexibility, arm positions and paths, fundamental shimmies, basic hip accents, introductory undulations, easy to follow traveling steps and combinations. The program culminates in a performance opportunity so students can share their new hobby with family and friends.
