Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop, a local non-profit dedicated to “empowering young inmates to write new chapters in their lives,” invites the community to participate in the Free Minds Satellite Write Night in Takoma. Read poems written by incarcerated youth and provide them with encouraging words. Hear from the Poet Ambassadors about the impact of writing and reading behind bars.

This play may be the most seminal work produced yet that confronts white privilege while black lives shatter in America.

The house where Charles and Ruth Crawford Seeger lived for some years in the early 1940's when Ruth was teaching music at the Silver Spring Nursery School (celebrating its 75th anniversary this year!) Peggy Seeger has memories from her childhood of Charles and Pete Seeger, Alan Lomax, Huddie Ledbetter, and Woody Guthrie swapping songs and stories around the fireplace, into the wee hours of the night. An opportunity to hear the incredible music of the four Lopez brothers, Wilson, Luis, Jorge and Bolivar of Andes Manta in an intimate setting.

Celebrating the release of their new record, Sweet Lorain, named after the town, Lorain, OH, where Joe Uehlein's story starts.  Sweet Lorain is a concept album, a collection of new original songs that have something to say about the world around us in a variety of musical genres from folk to swing, country to rock, bluegrass to surf!  The U-Liners will be joined by Rickie Simpkins on fiddle, who appears on the recording and occasionally gigs with The U-Liners when he's not  playing with the Seldom Scene!

The works in this exhibition emerged from a County-wide call to artists for works of botanical art depicting plants or fungi relating to the theme "Plants that Nourish and Heal.” This exhibition was juried by Barbara Hanft, Joan Ducore, and Amina Cooper, Gallery Curator.
